Open Trade Detail
Open a trade from Trade History, Daily Journal or another supported trade link. On desktop, Trade Detail opens as a side drawer so you can retain the surrounding list. On mobile, it uses a dedicated full-screen experience.
The live tabs are Trade Metrics, Journal, AI Insights, Trade Tags and Charts. Core metrics, notes and system review fields are available normally; AI Insights generation and Charts have separate Pro boundaries.
The retained /journal/trade route is not the live review workflow. Use an actual trade row or card to open Trade Detail.
1. Confirm the trade record
Start with instrument, direction, entry and exit, size, realised result, costs and timing. Confirm that the selected account and imported record match the trade you intended to review.
Imported trade facts and your journal interpretation are deliberately separate. If the broker history is incomplete, repair or synchronise the account before using the record to judge performance.
2. Record the context
Use the rich-text note to capture the setup, market context, planned invalidation, actual decisions, exit reasoning and lesson. Add images when a chart or screenshot explains the decision better than text.
Templates can provide consistent prompts. If another device changed the note first, TraderWaves rejects an outdated save rather than silently overwriting the newer version; refresh before continuing.
3. Add tags, rating, emotion and assessments
Structured fields make the trade discoverable later. Use a strategy tag for what you traded, mistake tags for how execution departed from plan, a rating for your review standard, Mindset for emotional context, and assessments for repeatable process dimensions.
System tag groups and system assessment scoring are available in the core Journal. Creating custom tag groups and custom assessment types requires Pro. See Tags and Labels for a complete tagging method.
4. Separate process quality from outcome
- A profitable trade can still contain an oversized position, late entry or broken exit rule.
- A losing trade can still be a valid execution of a tested setup.
- Win rate alone does not establish edge; compare outcome with payoff, expectancy and the broader sample.
- One trade should change a process only when it reveals a rule problem, not merely because it won or lost.
5. Use charts, trade-path data and WaveScore where available
The Trade Detail Charts tab requires the Pro chart-overlay capability. WaveScore and premium path metrics use a separate premium-metrics capability and can add entry, risk, exit, stability and tempo evidence when the trade has eligible Price Data v2 coverage.
Missing path analysis is not automatically an error. Sub-minute trades, unavailable price history, calculation failure or incomplete processing can make a trade ineligible. Review MFE, MAE and exit-quality definitions before interpreting these values.
6. Use AI as a second review layer
AI Trade Insights can analyse an individual trade where the user has the separate Pro capability. A Wave AI handoff can continue into a broader coaching conversation. These are distinct from AI-assisted filters.
Write your own observation first. AI should challenge or extend a review, not replace the factual trade record or your responsibility for trading decisions. The retained AI note-summary code is not wired into the live editor and should not be treated as an available auto-note feature.
7. Finish with one action
End the review with one precise action: repeat a good behaviour, change a rule, collect a larger tagged sample, reduce risk, or test the setup before using it again. Then use previous and next navigation to continue the review sequence.
Eligible manual-account trades can also be edited or deleted from the supported workflow. Sharing is optional and creates a separate public trade page only when enabled for the current community; test-account trades cannot use the normal public share path.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Trade Detail open differently on mobile?
Desktop uses a side drawer while mobile uses a full-screen flow. Both represent the same individual-trade review concept with layouts suited to the available space.
Why is WaveScore or MFE and MAE missing for a trade?
The trade may lack eligible Price Data v2 coverage, may be too short for reliable M1 path analysis, or may still be processing. Missing path data should not be interpreted as zero.
Can I edit every imported trade from Trade Detail?
No. Editing and deletion are intended for eligible manual-account trades. Connected broker history is maintained through its import and repair workflows.
Are AI Trade Insights the same as Wave AI?
No. AI Trade Insights analyse one trade, while Wave AI is the broader conversational coaching product. They use separate product capabilities.
